Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. The “Celts” lived 2000 years in what is now Ireland, the UK and northern part of France. At the end of summer, the Celts thought that the barrier between the “real” world and the world of the ghosts and spirits got really thin, like that weird creatures with strange spirits could wander around the world where they were living. This is why the Celts held a yearly big party, to scare away all these so-called ghosts and spirits; HALLOWEEN.
Later on, in America, Halloween became more popular. Irish immigrants in the US raised awareness and gained popularity about Halloween during the 19thcentury. During the 20thcentury it started to become more and more popular, with traditions like pumpkin carving and trick or treating, etc.
