Traveling With A Broken Bank Account

For every student, there is a poorly bank account that is crying out for help, which means that for those of you whose only wish is to travel to discover another beautiful part of the world, it can definitely make things a little tricky. There are however some ways to make these ‘around the world in 80 days’ trips a lot less expensive and maybe even giving you some unforgettable experiences you didn’t even see coming! So here are several ideas to help with your spontaneous travels whilst on a budget..

Au Pair

Many of you will have heard of Au Pairing as it is growingly popular and for a good reason! Language students out there, this calls your name, and for those of you who would love to teach a language or generally love being around kids. It is one of the best ways to learn languages or improve them, all whilst living with a family who can show you more about the culture and make you part of their family without thinking twice!

Worldpackers/Workaway

Worldpackers is in my opinion the best solution for traveling on a low budget. If you are happy to exchange some hours of work a day in return for a bed then you now know where to go! It is a very simple process to apply however it can be a long wait so try to be patient or apply in advance if you’d like to do a big trip. This is one way in which you can easily travel from country to country without having to pay for what can sometimes be the most expensive part which is accommodation. Whilst you’re at it, you will come across some of the most wonderful individuals that even if you’ve only known each other for a week or 2, it will feel like a life long friend.

CouchSurfing

Although this can be seen as a little risky but I promise you that as soon as you do it, your anxiety over the possibility of getting a house with 30 cats will completely disappear. It may just be someone else's couch and maybe it is not the longest (for all you giants up there) but it does mean you have a roof over your head.

BlaBlaCar

This carshare website is growingly more popular and it is not only environmentally friendly, but it's also much cheaper than buses and planes that is for sure. It is completely safe when it comes to payments and reliability on the driver as there are strict rules to follow when you are partaking. The bonus is that in those long journeys you can get to know a complete stranger better than you know some people.

Free Tours

Free tours are something that should be the first thing you search of on your travels. Not only is it run by people from the city itself, but sometimes they have previously homeless people who carry out the tours, giving a deeper insight into the city and the history within it whilst helping them out with a slight donation. They are almost in every city and if you are struggling to find them, just ask around and practice the language!

If you would like more ideas for travelling more for cheaper, or have ones to add to the list, please feel free to comment for future sufferers of wanderlust!

Till Next Time !
